As ancient costume dramas gain popularity, people have become familiar with the touch of blue often seen on palace jewelry. However, behind that vivid blue lies a rather controversial traditional craft called “Feather Inlay”.

In ancient times, Feather Inlay involved embedding the bright blue feathers of kingfisher onto metal bases to create exquisite objects. However, due to conservation, ethical, and supply-demand considerations, it gradually fell out of favor. Gong Pan Pan, a cultural and historical enthusiast and founder of Hanfugirl, will be sharing and demonstrating this nearly lost craft. She will be using dyed goose feathers as a substitute for kingfisher feathers, teaching participants how to make their own Feather Inlay brooch.
