Singapore, 31 January 2018 – Usher in the auspicious Year of the Dog and revel in festive celebrations as Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) presents its first-ever SCCC Lunar New Year Carnival & Concert. Held over two days on the second weekend of the New Year, the carnival and concert features more than 20 activities, food stalls and festive performances, including a finale concert by renowned artistes.

Starting the Lunar New Year on the right note, the SCCC Lunar New Year Concert is set to bring to life a medley of Lunar New Year classics and familiar tunes. Co-hosted by popular celebrities Marcus Chin, Xu Qiongfang and Lin Ruping who are known for their lively and comedic banters, the concert will feature the brightest singing talents from Singapore and Malaysia, including Zhuang Xuezhong, Li Baoen, Sally Yeo and Angie Lau. The audience can also expect first-time duets as well as refreshing renditions of the festive classics.

Apart from indulging in the musical spectacular, visitors will be able to try their hand at Chinese calligraphy or paper cutting craft while enjoying exhilarating cultural performances like contortionism, mask changing (bian lian) and dragon dance at the SCCC Lunar New Year Carnival. Visitors can also continue their Lunar New Year feasting with the wide selection of food stalls which offer traditional delicacies such as dragon beard candy, ting ting candy and muah chee.

“The Lunar New Year marks a special time in the year where families and friends come together to celebrate the most important event in the Chinese calendar. Through SCCC’s first ever Lunar New Year Carnival & Concert, we hope to provide an annual platform for visitors to SCCC to bond over a weekend of festivities and food, and for Singaporeans to celebrate Lunar New Year with other Singaporeans as part of our larger national family,” said Mr Chua Thian Poh, SCCC Chairman.

The SCCC Lunar New Year Carnival will take place on 24 and 25 February 2018 (Saturday & Sunday) from 2pm to 8pm, and the Lunar New Year Concert on 25 February 2018 (Sunday), from 7pm to 10pm. For more information, please visit https://www.singaporeccc.org.sg/.
