Singapore, 2 March 2018 – Visitors to the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) will not miss the three towering Tian Tian sculptures standing tall to welcome everyone to SCCC during the March school holidays!

Started as a showcase to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover to China in July 2017, the Tian Tian Xiang Shang (TTXS) exhibition features white three-dimensional Tian Tian figurines which serve as blank canvases for partners to express, in various forms, their crafts, thoughts, ideas, emotions, stories and imagination.

Mr. Danny Yung, co-artistic director and founding member of Zuni Icosahedron, said, “We are glad to partner SCCC to bring the TTXS exhibition back to Singapore and we hope that the expanded exhibition will continue to provoke creative thinking and serve a platform for discussion and dialogue, expression and engagement, creativity and inclusivity.”

With over 120 figurines on display, the Tian Tian @ SCCC exhibition, co-presented by SCCC and Zuni Icosahedron, will feature an additional 28 figurines created by members of the local museums, heritage institutions, Chinese clans, Chinese arts and cultural groups, schools and artists.

These new Tian Tian figurines will showcase the artistic inspirations and aspirations of the Chinese community for the local arts and culture scene. In addition, the exhibition will feature new Tian Tian figurines designed by the Malay, Indian, Eurasian and Peranakan communities in Singapore as showcases of their respective arts, culture and heritage.

According to Mr Chua Thian Poh, Chairman of SCCC, he said, “SCCC is always looking for ways to present Singapore’s unique Chinese culture in a relatable and accessible manner to the public. We are therefore happy to collaborate with Zuni Icosahedron, and leverage upon our shared objectives to present a family-friendly exhibition, showcase modern expressions of local Chinese arts and culture, and promote greater cross-cultural dialogue and understanding.”

The Tian Tian @ SCCC exhibition will include a public talk conducted by Zuni Icosahedron as well as a series of creative workshops. Students and members of the public can attend these free workshops where they will be able to express their thoughts, ideas and emotions on miniature Tian Tians which will then be added to the exhibition.

The exhibition runs from 3 March – 3 June 2018 (10am – 8pm) at the SCCC. For more information, please visit https://www.singaporeccc.org.sg/.
