Singapore, 7 August 2018 – “My Singapore Style” Micro Film Competition is now open for submissions. Following the “My Singapore Story” and “My Singapore Future” themes in 2014 and 2016 respectively, participants are invited to work on the theme, “My Singapore Style” for this round, to share the spirit, culture and values that best represents Singapore.

Jointly organised by Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA), Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) and Chinese Daily Lianhe Zaobao, the biennial micro film competition is committed to provide a creative platform for all, regardless of age, race and nationality, to document their stories, memories and experiences relating to Singapore.

According to the organisers, the theme, My Singapore Style, for this round, which is also the third edition of the competition, has been broadened to include a wider range of subjects that could span across space and time, as well as bring new insights of what embodies Singapore. It is also hoped that participants and viewers could be drawn into discovering their deep emotional connections to Singapore, and alongside forge a stronger sense of belonging and identity among them.

In a bid to encourage novices to participate and equip them with the necessary skills, a series of workshops on production of micro film will be conducted in Mandarin and English respectively, from September to November 2018. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from veteran filmmaker Boris Boo, on the essentials of micro film production.

An eight-member panel, comprising of film makers, critics and academics from diverse backgrounds will judge the entries. They include the Vice Chairman of Singapore Film Society, David Lee; The Straits Time video News Editor, E-Von Yeung; MediaCorp Senior Producer, Tan Ing How; Director of Centre for Chinese Studies at Singapore University of Social Sciences, Dr Foo Tee Tuan; Film Columnist of Singapore University of Social Sciences, Will Ding; Filmmaker, Eva Tang; Executive Creative Director of 10Am Communications, Lim Sau Hoong; and Creative Director of Papahan Films, M Raihan Halim.

On top of trophies, a total of close to $30,000 cash prizes will be given to the top three winners in both the Open and Student categories. There will also be awards for the most popular and creative micro films, as well as the best actor/actress and director. Registration of interest is open till 15 November 2018, while entries are to be submitted by 1 February 2019. Learn more about the competition by visiting http://microfilm.zaobao.com/.
