SCCC Topping-out Ceremony

Singapore, 17 January 2016 – After 15 months of construction, since the September 2014 ground-breaking ceremony officiated by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, main structure work of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre building has been completed. The Centre’s Topping-out Ceremony, scheduled on 17 January 2016, 11.30am, will be officiated by Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth. This will be another important milestone in the development of local Chinese culture, celebrated together with representatives of clan and new immigrant associations, arts and cultural organisations, and various ethnic groups in our society.

The new Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre building, occupying 5,074 square metres and located beside the Singapore Conference Hall, has a total floor area of 15,123 square metres. Designed by DP Architects Pte Ltd, the Centre is an ingenuous contemporary expression of traditional Chinese architectural style. Incorporating the concept of sustainable development through the application of special construction materials, and with a beautiful rooftop garden, the Centre is not only aesthetic and practical but also energy-saving and environmentally friendly.

Constructed by mainboard-listed local construction firm, KSH Holdings Limited, the Centre is expected to be completed in November 2016. When ready, it will be home to modern facilities such as an auditorium, a visual arts gallery, a multi-purpose hall, a recital hall, an activity concourse and a roof terrace garden, among others.

The overall construction cost of the Centre is over one hundred million dollars, of which 90% is sponsored by the government and the remainder by local clan associations, foundations, business organisations, enterprises and individuals.
